July Belmont Downs – David,
Richard and Paul Another
Sunday, another good morning’s riding and David
gets his usual flat. This is the start of a busy month. The
evenings are a lot lighter now and we are out for a couple of hours after work
around Belmont Downs, across the golf course and down Track_40.
The weather is glorious and the tracks are bone dry allowing us to cover plenty
of miles.
We
discover that some BMX’ers have been building ramps all around Track_40.
After egging each other on we eventually try one small jump that is at the foot
of a large drop giving you plenty of speed. I manage to get the bike about 18
inches off the ground and travel 6 feet forwards. I know it’s pretty pathetic
but it’s my first ever jump! Keith thinks to himself,
‘I can do that’ and proceeds down the ramp at speed, raising the front wheel about
4 feet off the ground he unfortunately nosedives to land front wheel first and
goes over the top landing heavily. Although
Keith is very sore, he is okay but we are all
a little subdued and make our way home for the evening. 17th

evening ride. No mishaps but the brambles growing around Track_40
are growing over the track and almost impossible to avoid. Heading towards Headley |

July - Thursday - Belmont_Downs David,

evening rides in a week, this is becoming an obsession. The weather is glorious. I
didn’t seem to have any power in my legs. I struggled up Leith_Hill
then felt like shit all afternoon once I got home. I must have been sickening
for something because I was off work sick for 2 and a half days the following
week. 25th July David phones me at work and we go to Evans Cycles at Waterloo. I buy a new Specialized saddle and two tyres, Specialized_Team_Master and Specialized_Team_Control (£7 each) from the bargain bin. The saddle must be mis-priced. It’s only £7, has manganese rails and is about 75g lighter than the current Enduro saddle. A great deal. When I get home, I put the new saddle on the Enduro, and the old saddle plus the tyres on the Apollo.
