Servicing a Hope XC hub This is a really simple item to service and as long as you follow the pictures you shouldn't go wrong. It's just a case of disassembling and then reassembling the same parts without the need to tune anything e.g. as you would when fitting a new mech. Step 1 Remove the cassette using a spanner on the cassette cracker and chain whip to keep the cassette from rotating as you apply pressure The hub body exposed - covered in grime from the trails Step 2 use two large flat bladed screwdrivers to gently prise up the top cap Step 3 the top cap loosened and ready to remove Step 4 Gently lift the hub body off - be careful not to lose the 3 pawls and springs that are at the bottom of the hub body. You can also remove the shim from the axle to clean it (aluminium disc which you can see inside the hub) READ
MORE: | Step 5 The pawls and springs - they are small and easily mislaid. Clean and degrease the pawls and springs Step 6 prise out the seal and clean the ratchets (beneath the seal) thoroughly with a degreaser and lint free cloth and then dry. Be careful not to get any oil or degreaser on the disc rotor Step 7 refit the seal by push fitting it and reapply a light coating of grease to the ratchets. Also remember to put the aluminium shim that you removed in Step 4 back on the axle Step 8 refit the pawls and springs in the hub body. The springs fit in the circular cut-out on the pawls at one end and the circular shape in the hub body at the other end. Use a blob of grease at both ends of the spring to keep everything in place Step 9 Gently push the hub body back on to the axle. Take care as you turn the hub upside down that the springs and pawls do not fall out. Push them gently inwards as you push them past the green seal. Refit the top cap you removed in Step 3 by pushing it on firmly to hold everything together Step 10 clean the cassette while you are at it and refit using the cassette cracker. You don't need the chain whip when refitting it as you are now pushing againt the ratchets which hold the hub firmly in place - lovely jubbly! | |||||||
