Tip of the Week Tip 8: Double tube your tyres For those of you more worried about not getting punctures and less worried about the weight of your bike, why not try double tubing your tyres? Whaat! I hear you say. Double tubing is where you have 2 inner tubes in one tyre to reduce the likelihood of punctures, pinch flats or snakebites. One tube goes in as normal and then the other has the valve cut off, slit lengthways then goes in between the proper tube and the tyre. Now you could just buy downhill tubes but you might struggle to get those inside a 'normal' tyres used in the UK whereas you will have at least a dozen old inner tubes in your tool box just waiting to be cut up and used like this:try it! Cut out the valve using a pair of scissors cut around the middle of the tube on the inside (where it would normally be touching the rim) You are left with sometihng that looks like a discarded snakeskin pump up another tube to make it firm and retain it's shape and then wrap the cut up tube around it to leave it looking like this. insert both inside the tyre. This is the most fiddly bit. Once both tubes are almost fully inside the tyre you can deflate the inner tube to allow you to fit the tyre properly Thanks to 'Roo' for this top tip. READ MORE: Tip
